Apart from actually having inspiration on some days, It would have to be b-lines and variating them. A few years back it was ok just to have a standard b-line, but now you need some sonic basslines with good variation.
My ideal bassline to create is from the Garage tune "Hold Tight", love that b-line.

Real player does degrade the sound nuff, have you heard fruity demo's, that program is more than capable of producing fine results, if you master it.

there is so much more to offer in other software, where u can get alot better results from! does depend on your hardware to though, even if your just using a mac or pc, a decent soundcard is a must! preferebly not a soundblaster!
